New posting requirement effective June 21, 2010 -- Hey, That's Next Week!

Executive Order 13496, signed in January 2009, requires all federal contractors and subcontractors to notify employees of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), including their right to join and support unions. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has now issued a final rule implementing No. 13496 and clarifying compliance, penalties and other details.

The key take away is that federal contractors with $100,000 or more in federal contracts and subcontractors with $10,000 or more must post a notice in the workplace in paper form where other such notices are posted. A form poster has been issues by the DOL. The notice must also be posted electronically if other such notices are so posted, but electronic posting is not a substitute for the paper form.

Again, the rule will take effect June 21, 2010.
