Covington Catholic High School Receives Its Second Fully Funded Scholarship - The W. Bruce Lunsford Scholarship Fund

Covington Catholic High School will announce the funding of one of the most significant scholarships in the school’s history. Through a gift from the Dennis M. and Lois A. Doyle Family foundation the W. Bruce Lunsford Scholarship Fund has been established.

The Lunsford scholarship is the fifth scholarship the Doyle Family Foundation has established at Covington Catholic. Dennis Doyle said:”Bruce and I have been friends for over 30 years. Bruce, in many respects, personifies the American Dream. From a humble background, but having great parents who emphasized the importance of education, Bruce became a CPA, lawyer and successful businessperson. Lois and I were delighted when Bruce agreed to collaborate with us in establishing this scholarship.”

Ironically, Bruce started his legal career at the Cincinnati, Ohio law firm of Keating, Muething & Klekamp, which was co-founded by John L. Muething, a 1939 Covington Catholic High School graduate. John L. Muething and his family has the honor of establishing the first ever fully-funded scholarship at Covington Catholic – The John L. Muething Family Scholarship.

In commenting on Bruce’s generosity in completing the funding of the second fully- funded endowed scholarship, John said: “When Bruce came to KMK as a young lawyer over 30 years ago we all recognized he would be a ‘star.’ His energy and commitment to excellence was as apparent from the beginning as it is today. I obviously take special pride that Bruce would be so generous to an institution which gave me my start and represents a big part of my life.”

Bruce Lunsford said: “I was born and raised in Kenton County and in many ways feel I have never left. Many of my friends and acquaintances are graduates of Covington Catholic. Covington Catholic graduates were always well-prepared and stood out from the crowd. Denny and Lois Doyle have been very close friends through thick and thin and I consider John Muething one of my key mentors in life. When I was asked to consider joining Denny and Lois in funding this scholarship it was an easy decision.”

Covington Catholic High School will announce the establishment of the W. Bruce Lunsford Scholarship at the all school mass on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Bruce will formally announce the scholarship at approximately 10:50 a.m.
