John N. Winstead Leaves Keating Muething & Klekamp to Serve U.S. Navy
John N. Winstead, a Senior Associate at Keating Muething & Klekamp (KMK), will be leaving the firm to begin a long-term assignment with the U.S. Navy on November 23rd. John, a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, volunteered to join a small group of Navy officers who will work with U.S. Army and Marine Corps elements in the Middle East conducting liaison efforts with government officials and civilian populations. John will be initially assigned to Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Prior to entering law school, John served as an active duty officer in the Navy, and participated in operations in the Middle East, Pacific and Caribbean. Recalled to active duty for six months in early 2002 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, John served on the staff of the Commander of Naval Forces Central Command operating in the Middle East, and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his work. John’s service in the Navy Reserve has included several assignments in the Middle East, Australia, and Japan.
“John has been a valuable member of our Commercial Finance Group and the firm, and while he will be greatly missed, we’re certainly supportive of his decision to continue his service to our country,” said Paul V. Muething, Managing Partner. “John is one of those rare people who is willing to volunteer to serve our country at great personal sacrifice. He’s leaving a very promising law career position to commit himself to the protection of our service men and women. We wish John all the best in his future endeavors.”
John received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law (1998) and his B.S. from the University of Kentucky (1991).
